Frequently Asked Questions
are you an individual or an agency?
I am an individual–Matt Ream–and am widely versed in the intricacies of modern B2B marketing. I oversee all work and do most of it myself, but hire freelancers as needed for either their expertise, or to handle overflow work. Sub-contractors are vetted and experienced, and I ensure all work that is done is completed to meet my clients’ stringent requirements.
how do i know if you’re a good fit for me?
It’s true that everyone is not for everyone. My skills cover a lot of areas and I’m easy to get along with, but may not be everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s ok. If you’ve clicked around the website or seen anything from me on social media, you probably have some idea of who I am. The next step is for us to have a quick chat where you can ask me whatever you like to see if you think we would be a good fit. To be honest, I’m going to do the same, and will only work with clients I can a) get along with and 2) really help in the marketing arena.
what kind of companies do you work with?
All good marketers think they can help anyone, and to some degree that’s probably true. However, one rule of marketing is that if you are marketing to everyone, you’re marketing to no one.
My “sweet spot” is with early-stage startups who have sufficient funding to not only pay me, but to cover some marketing expenses. I focus on B2B startups in technology (SaaS, software, professional services). I have helped companies who were pre-revenue, gaining their first customers and those who are starting to get traction and scale to $10M ARR and beyond.
how can i manage my marketing costs?
I will work with you on budgeting so you know exactly what to expect. If needed, I can quote you a project-based fee that we will stick to. However, I prefer to work with clients on a retainer, or hourly, basis because it’s easier to shift directions and priorities (on your side, not mine!) I work at a reasonable hourly rate, and include sub-contractors as needed within that amount. The only surprises I want you to have are on the quality of the work, not on the bill.
do you have a money-back guarantee?
I want you to be thrilled with the work I do for you, so I will work day and night to make sure you get what you paid for. If that requires expenses on my part above and beyond what we agreed on, then that’s on me. If you are not satisfied with what I deliver, please let me know and I will make it right. That’s my preference but I will return your money if it comes to that. However, none of this has ever been an issue.
do i need a big marketing budget?
I have a successful history of marketing on a shoestring budget, which is often what startups are facing. However, I have also learned the important lesson that “it takes money to make money” and often one of the best investments a startup can make is in marketing. As we discuss your needs and goals, I will put together a recommended list of expenses for tools, advertising, etc. that would be helpful. We’re in this together and I only want to see you succeed!
I highly recommend Matt for any B2B company looking for a marketer who can come in, hit the ground running, and make a difference.
